Frequently asked questions about EraseGPT
Straight answers about AI percentage scores, plagiarism matches, text humanization, files, credits, and responsible use.
AI and plagiarism results need context. Start with the explanations below, then read our detection methodology or try the AI detector and plagiarism checker for yourself.
AI detection and scores
How does AI detection work?
AI detectors evaluate statistical patterns in text and estimate whether those patterns resemble writing produced by a language model. EraseGPT reports an overall AI likelihood. It does not identify the author or prove that AI was used.
What does an AI percentage mean?
An AI percentage is a model estimate, not a literal measurement of how many words an AI wrote. Read it alongside the highlighted sentences, the document context, and other evidence. A single score should never be the sole basis for an academic, hiring, or disciplinary decision.
How accurate are AI detection tools?
There is no universal accuracy rate. Results vary with the detector, model, language, document length, editing, and subject matter. Short or highly formulaic writing is especially difficult to classify. Use results as a review signal and expect different tools to disagree.
Can EraseGPT detect ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini?
EraseGPT cannot reliably identify a specific model. It returns a general AI-likelihood signal, and we do not publish a verified accuracy rate for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any other named system.
Why might human writing be flagged as AI-generated?
Formal, repetitive, heavily edited, translated, or very short text can resemble statistical patterns common in generated writing. This is called a false positive. Review the complete document and ask the writer for drafts or sources before drawing a conclusion.
How should I check an essay for AI-generated text?
Use the complete essay when possible, review the highlighted passages, and compare the result with drafts, citations, and the writer’s normal style. Do not treat a detector score as proof of misconduct. Our methodology page explains the limitations in more detail.
Plagiarism and originality reports
What is the difference between AI detection and plagiarism checking?
AI detection estimates whether writing patterns resemble generated text. Plagiarism checking looks for passages that match available sources. A document can be original but AI-generated, human-written but copied, both, or neither, so the two checks answer different questions.
What does a plagiarism percentage mean?
The percentage summarizes text that overlaps with sources found during the scan. A match is not automatically plagiarism: quotations, references, common phrases, and templates can be legitimate. Open the matched sources and review each passage in context.
Can I use EraseGPT as an originality report checker?
Yes. The plagiarism tool presents matched passages and available source links so you can review an originality report. Coverage depends on sources available to the service, so no checker can guarantee that every possible match will be found.
Can I scan an essay or paper for plagiarism?
Yes. Paste the text or upload a supported document, run the plagiarism check, and inspect every highlighted match. Correct attribution and quotation rules depend on your institution or publisher, so apply their policy when revising the document.
Humanizing and editing AI text
What is AI text humanization?
AI text humanization is an editing process that rewrites generated or formulaic prose for clearer, more natural wording. It may vary sentence structure, rhythm, vocabulary, and tone while trying to preserve the original meaning.
Can a humanizer guarantee undetectable text?
No. No editor or rewriting tool can guarantee a particular result across every AI detector. Detectors use different models and thresholds and can change over time. Humanized output should be reviewed for accuracy, voice, citations, and compliance with the rules that apply to your work.
Does humanizing text always preserve its meaning?
The tool is designed to preserve meaning, but automated rewrites can still alter nuance, facts, quotations, or technical terms. Compare the result with the source, restore required citations, and make a final human edit before publishing or submitting it.
Is it ethical to humanize AI text?
It depends on the context and applicable rules. Editing a draft for clarity can be legitimate, while disguising prohibited AI use or misrepresenting authorship may not be. Follow your school, employer, client, or publisher policy and disclose AI assistance when required.
What types of writing can I edit?
The tool can assist with essays, articles, marketing copy, reports, emails, and other prose. Material that contains legal, medical, financial, or technical claims needs qualified human review because a fluent rewrite can still be factually wrong.
Which languages are supported?
EraseGPT is currently optimized for English-language AI detection, plagiarism checking, and humanization. Support for additional languages is not yet available in production.
Files, accounts, and privacy
Which file formats can I upload?
The web tool accepts PDF, DOCX, TXT, RTF, and HTML files up to 15 MB. You can also paste text directly or submit a public URL. Extracted text should be checked after upload, especially when the source uses columns, tables, or scanned pages.
How long does an analysis take?
Processing time depends on text length, the selected checks, network conditions, and service demand. Short text often finishes quickly, while large files or multi-part reports take longer. The progress display shows when each requested analysis completes.
How do credits and subscriptions work?
Each analysis uses credits according to the text length and selected tool. Current package prices, allowances, and renewal terms are shown in the account purchase screen before checkout. Review those live details because offers can change.
How is my information handled?
EraseGPT uses account, usage, device, analytics, and payment-related information to operate the service. Relevant data may be processed by service providers such as RevenueCat. Read the Privacy Policy for the current details and contact route.
How can I contact support?
Email [email protected] with the account email, a concise description of the problem, and any non-sensitive error details. Do not email passwords, payment-card data, or confidential source text.
